Neat early "box-bed" steam engine used from the 1860's to 1870's. The engine has some original paint on it & was originally painted up black with yellow/gold pin stripes & with a green valve chest cover, see pics. This would have been a working engine & it probably had a water pump attached to the wooden pull rod hanging off the valve gear for pumping water for a farm, in a building, etc. The engine is missing some parts such as the crankshaft, flywheel & eccentric but these are basic items to find & simple/easy to reproduce.

The cylinder, valve linkage, etc all look to be in decent shape & everything moves. The engine has a 2" diameter bore & is about 19" long with a 4 wide box bed. This is a very early engine & it's unique in that it was cast in babbit/lead around a brass cylinder sleeve with brass parts. It also has a unique oiler machined right into the top of the valve box cover.

We've had this engine for years sitting on the shelf. No previous history came with the engine although it might have originally been used in Ohio somewhere. The engine weighs about 37 lbs. The engine can be seen here in New Washington, Ohio & can be picked up if wanted. We can also deliver free to Coolspring, PA in June or Portland, IN in August.
