Rare Antique French Steam Locomotive Working Model Cutout Automaton Demo Toy
I have no idea what to properly call this item and what its original purpose was, but it is extremely interesting. There are no makers marks or dates, my guess is 1880s give or take take 20 years either way. On the back side there is a knob and a pulley system, when the knob is turned the rear & middle wheel rotate. I believe more should be happening and there is some notable damage to some of the (should be) moving parts. Its lithographed paper over wood and metal. It measures about 13 3/4 x 8 5/8. There is considerable wear & loss to the lithograph including fading, staining and tears.
The backboard which was nailed on, comes loose. This is a very unique antique item, could be a toy or teaching item, the details are really impressive, think about the work involved in making a piece like this. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition.
